Troubleshooting share links

Let's looks at possible causes of broken share links

Updated over a month ago

When generating a link to your form users can sometimes experience and error preventing them from accessing the form. These errors include one of these messages:

  1. Oops, something went wrong Request failed: 500

  2. Session token request failed: 401

In this article, we provide troubleshooting steps to help you resolve this issue.

401 Error when access a form

User Access

A frequent cause of the 500 error is when the public link was originally authorized using a different account than the one you normally log in with (e.g. a service account), and that account does not have access to the form or is not a member of the team. To fix this we recommend adding the account that authorized the link as an Owner or team member, so it has proper access.

Expired Authorization

When creating a public share link to your form you will usually be prompted to authorize the link. This error indicates that the link has since expired, you can use the following steps to re-authorize the link:

  1. Navigate to the share dialogue for the form. You will notice an error icon next to the link.

  2. Click the error icon and follow the authentication prompts, please note that the authentication pop-up might be block by your browser.

  3. Once you have completed the authentication step the error icon will disappear and the share link should start to work.

Public form links stop working after unpublishing

When a form is unpublished, any public URLs linked to that form are invalidated and will no longer work until the form has been re-published.
