If you or your team members are seeing an "Internal Server Error" while trying to sync a form response, don't worry—your data is likely safe. This error usually happens when there is a permission issue with the form's privacy settings.
What causes this error?
This error occurs when the form is set to be Confidential (the setting "Restrict users from accessing each other's responses" is turned on), but the digital "token" or permission required to enforce this rule has expired.
This expiration can happen for a few common reasons:
Password Resets: The Form Owner recently changed their Microsoft 365 password.
Security Updates: Your organization’s IT policies revoked the permission token.
Time: Sometimes, these security tokens simply expire after a long period. The period is controlled by your own internal IT department.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, the Form Owner simply needs to "refresh" the permission. Follow these steps:
Navigate to the Form Builder for the form that is experiencing the error.
Click the "..." (More Options) button in the top menu, then select Permissions.
Locate the toggle switch labeled "Restrict users from accessing each other's responses."
You will see an Error/Warning Icon next to this toggle. Click this icon to re-authorize the permission.
What happens next?
Once you have re-authorized the form:
The error message will disappear.
Any responses that were "stuck" or unsynced on your users' devices will automatically upload the next time they open the Team Forms app.
ℹ️ You do not need to ask users to resubmit their data. The app will retry the upload automatically once the permission is fixed.
